Highlights: We rarely encounter an aquarium enthusiast like Mr. Mani Mohan Shee. Though experienced, he chose us for his first planted aquarium, involving his entire family in the process. Notably, we used ONF Lights for the first time in Kolkata, possibly India, and were impressed by their spectral distribution and vivid plant colours. Mr. Shee’s dedication to maintaining his tank with meticulous detail is truly admirable.

Highlights: This stunning aquascape, featuring a variety of plants and a hint of red at the back, evokes a sunset ambiance. The light green leaves of Ranunculus Inundatus create a perfect contrast with the shadows. It looks like a dragon resting, isn’t it?

Highlights: The customer, dissatisfied with previous fishkeeping experiences, approached us to set up a Discus planted aquarium in her new flat, despite initial skepticism. We designed a central mound layout using Echinodorus, Cryptocorynes, and Cyperus Helferi, avoiding stem plants, and selected ADA Sansui stone for its water-neutral properties and beneficial bacteria colonization. Initially, the project faced a setback due to a tank leak, which increased the customer’s skepticism. However, we provided a new tank and ensured a flawless setup, resulting in a happy client. We used ADA 36W PLL lamps for excellent plant growth and vibrant fish color rendering, fitting the custom-built cover. To maintain the water KH/GH balance needed for the Discus, we added Salty Shrimp Soft Water Mineral GH+.

Highlights: Mr. Banerjee, an experienced aquarist, visited our Kolkata gallery to order a 2 ft planted aquarium. He had two requests: to use some of his existing equipment and to create a completely new theme. As a marine engineer, he left for a voyage, trusting us to design something unique. We decided on a “Krabi Island” theme, constructing a hardscape with 8 kg of Ouko stone and using Riccardia chamedryfolia and Weeping Moss to mimic trees on cliffs. To enhance depth in the 1 ft deep tank, we added a patch of Blyxa Japonica in the front right. The green tone of ADA Aquasky G highlighted the different shades of green, while La Plata sand effectively depicted the “sea.”

Highlights: When RIPPLES began in 2015, Ratnadeep was our first customer. In 2018, he asked us to rescape his tank to resemble Yosemite National Park, USA. For the hardscape, we chose ADA Kei stone, whose light yellowish-pink color mirrors Yosemite’s rocks. La Plata sand recreated the river, and we used Montecarlo to mimic flowing meadows. Given the tank’s shallow depth, we planted Eleocharis acicularis and Staurogyne repens in the front to enhance the sense of depth. Other plants included Micranthemum umbrosum ‘Montecarlo’ and Hemianthus micranthemoides.

Highlights: Vikram, a keen aquarist, converted his marine aquarium into a planted one using ADA substrates and fertilizers, but his chosen LED lamp didn’t meet his expectations. When he approached us, we recommended switching to ADA 36W PLL lamps due to depth and height constraints. These lamps, despite initial scepticism, successfully reached the 2.5 ft depth. Their excellent colour rendering brought out vivid colours in all plants, from the bright green of weeping moss to the red hues of Rotala HRA and Ludwigia. The “flow” of weeping moss on the driftwood is simply fantastic.

Highlights: Another one of our milestones, we used the ADA Aquasky 601 LED light for the first time. This photo was taken when the tank was just about one month old, showcasing the fantastic growth of plants, including the rare Ammania sp. Bonsai.

Highlights: Our client, Mr. Sekhar Dutta, one of the country’s foremost rose experts and an engineer by profession, chose horticulture as his passion and business early in his career. As an avid fish keeper, he had a “bare bottom” discus aquarium. When he heard about planted aquariums, he tasked us with converting his old tank into a planted one and challenged us to use as many aquatic plants as possible. We included varieties such as Anubias nana “gold,” Cryptocoryne wendtii “Tropica,” and Cryptocoryne “Green Gecko” for the first time. This project was special as it encouraged a veteran like Mr. Dutta to embrace planted aquariums. His collection has since grown from 1 to 9 tanks!

Highlights: Parthiv, a talented young boy with a passion for DIY projects, loves creating electronic gadgets, building drones, and caring for his aquariums and terrariums. His dream was to participate in the 2021 IAPLC, and with our support, he achieved this goal, earning an impressive 283rd place—an outstanding feat for a first-time junior contestant and probably the first rank holder among all entries from India in 2021. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 second wave, we kept our promise to photograph his tank for the competition, with help from our aquascapist friend, Mr. Shibasis Mukherjee. We also commend Parthiv’s parents for their encouragement and nurturing his love for nature.
